Shake while dragging and a small tray appears. Park files there, drag them out later.
More about MiniTray
Moving files between windows, desktops and apps? Shake the pointer while you drag and a small tray appears next to it. Drop your files, folders or images, move around freely, and drag everything out when you're ready.
You're halfway through a drag and the destination folder isn't on screen. So you keep the button held down while you hunt for the window and flip between desktops. Let go and you lose your place; hold on and you can't do anything else. MiniTray ends that standoff: shake the pointer mid-drag and a small tray opens beside it. Park what you're carrying, take your time, and pull it back out once the destination is in front of you.
A look inside
What it does
Shake to summon
Start dragging files or images in Finder or any other app, give the pointer a quick shake, and the tray appears right beside it.
Collect, then carry
Drop as many files, folders and images as you like. Drag them all out at once, or open the tray and pick just the ones you need.
Shows up after screenshots
Optionally, after every screenshot the tray appears for a few seconds with it already inside, ready to take wherever it's going.
AirDrop and shortcut
Send the tray's contents with AirDrop, or open an empty tray with an optional keyboard shortcut.
Nothing is moved or kept
MiniTray only holds references in memory. Closing the tray never moves or deletes your files — Finder does the moving when you drop them.
Lives in the menu bar
No Dock icon, no windows to manage. Just the tray, when you need it.
Keyboard shortcuts
The tray appears while you drag
Opens the empty tray, if you turn one on
The shake works from the start. The shortcut is off by default: you turn it on and pick one of the four combinations in Settings.
Permissions
macOS asks for Input Monitoring permission so MiniTray can notice the shake gesture while you drag. It only watches three mouse events while you drag — left button down, move and up — and never reads your keyboard.
Privacy
MiniTray keeps nothing: tray contents live in memory and disappear when you close the tray or quit the app. Privacy Policy →
Questions
What does it cost, and what do I get?
US$7.99, paid once, yours for good. One key covers up to three Macs you own or use, and you can release a Mac from the app's settings to move the license elsewhere. Want all four apps? The bundle is US$19.99 instead of the US$33.96 they add up to separately.
Can I get a refund?
Yes — within 14 days of your purchase, for any reason, no questions asked. Lemon Squeezy is our reseller and Merchant of Record, so the refund comes back through them to the card you paid with. We handle the request within 2 business days.
How does the free trial work?
Download MiniTray and open it. The 14-day trial starts on its own, with the whole app unlocked — nothing held back. No card, no account, no email. When it runs out, the app asks for a license key: paste in the one from your order email and carry on.
Do updates cost extra?
No. Every update within the major version you bought — all 1.x releases, for example — is included. The app can check for them on its own, and you choose when to install.
Does MiniTray copy my files?
No. It remembers where they are. When you drop them somewhere, Finder copies or moves them as usual.
Which screenshots does it detect?
The ones from macOS, from Tempo, and any that land in your screenshots folder or are saved with a screenshot name. You can turn the whole thing off in Settings.
